I am pleased to announce that the winner of the 2018 Congressional High School Art Competition for California’s 45th District is Mission Viejo resident Elsa Schweizer. Elsa’s artwork, titled “Abigail in Orange”, is a stunning portrait of her sister that incorporates thin layers of multimedia paper to create a unique 3-D image.
It was an honor to recognize Elsa and the other talented participants of this year’s competition at the Orange County Great Park’s Artist Studios, where all of the submitted artwork was showcased last month for families and friends to enjoy. I continue to be amazed by the incredible artistic talent of students in our community, and am proud to support this annual program that encourages our children to explore their passion and provides a forum to display their artistic talents for the community to see. Elsa and her family will soon travel to Washington, D.C., for a reception in the U.S. Capitol Building, where she will meet with winners from other Congressional districts across the Nation. There, her artwork will be displayed for an entire year for millions of visitors to enjoy. My office and I look forward to sharing Elsa’s artwork with Orange County residents touring the Capitol!
I want to thank all of the students who participated in this year’s competition. Our community is enriched by the contributions of these young artists and I cannot wait to see what great works of art are in store for next year’s competition! If you have any questions about the Congressional Art Competition, please do not hesitate to contact my District Office at (949) 263-8703.
